Historique du nom: Le Chaffaud (1793, Archives 37, Biens nationaux), Le Chaux Faux (1812, Cadastre A1), Le Chafaud (2013, Carte IGN).
En 1662, Méry Raguin, laboureur, habitait au Chafaud. En 1793, ce domaine fut vendu comme bien national sur Pierre Gilbert de Voisins, émigré.
