Historique du nom: Le Chatelier (XVIIIe siècle, Carte de Cassini), La Chatellier (1820, Carte de l'état-major), Le Châtellier (1831, Cadastre), Le Châtellier (1845, acte Robin/Tours), Le Châtellier (1967, Cadastre), Le Châtellier (2013, Carte IGN).
En 1791, ce domaine appartenait au duc de Richelieu. Le Vieux-Châtellier était en ruines en 1832.
